Kids' Races at the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix
This will be our fourth year sponsoring the Kids' Races at the MBGP! If you've got a two-year-old on a balance bike or a twelve-year-old ready to really race, the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix Kids' Races are worth building your morning around. They're open to all kids ages 2–14, spectator admission is free, and fair warning, they're more fun to watch than you'd expect.
Here's what you need to know before race day.
Getting a ticket
Tickets aren't just entry, each one comes with a race number, a souvenir T-shirt, a goodie bag, and a medal your racer takes home the moment they cross the finish line. Beginner rule: don't wait. These sell out before race day every year.
What to bring
Racers use their own bikes and helmets, training wheels, balance bikes, and tricycles are all welcome. There's no "right" bike here, just whatever your kid already knows how to ride.
How the heats work
Kids race in heats grouped by age, gender, and bike type, so a heat is usually just one age group within one gender (three-year-old girls on trikes, for example). Distances are short and age-appropriate: 60 yards for ages 2–6, and 185 yards for ages 7–12.
Check-in and timing
The Kids' Zone opens at 8:30 a.m., and the pro races kick things off at 7:00 a.m. with local vendors and exhibits already going. Los Angeles County residents note: getting there early isn't just about avoiding a rush, it's genuinely part of the fun, so plan to make a morning of it rather than rolling in right before your kid's heat.
Plan to check in at the Kids' Races booth near the Kids' Zone by 10:30 a.m. at the latest. From there:
- Ages 2–6: Arrive at the staging area by 11:30 a.m. Races start around 12:00 p.m.
- Ages 7–12: Arrive at the staging area by 12:00 p.m. Races start around 12:30 p.m.
In staging, park bikes on the marked lines and let your kids wander the area while they wait for their heat, it's low-key, and that's the point.
Visit the Greenspan Realty Booth
We’ll be at our booth right behind the start/finish line along The Greenbelt with free cookies, popsicles for the kids (after their race is done), and coffee from local favorite Gitana. Swing by and say hi, grab a treat, and feel free to ask us any real estate-related questions.
